Dr. Kristi Jensen is currently the Chief of Vision Therapy Services at Western University College of Optometry in Pomona CA.  She has been a faculty member at Western University for about 6 years, and has been serving as Chief for about 5 years.

Dr. Jensen is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and discovered vision therapy in her third year courses .  During her 4th year, she spent time in the vision therapy service and knew that this was something she wanted to pursue.  After graduating, she worked in a full-scope optometric practice that was offering vision therapy, and became convinced that she wanted to tip the balance to be more involved in vision therapy.  That’s exactly what she did when she found her “dream job,” working with Dr. Nancy Torgerson for 4 years.  But she left the Pacific Northwest for southern California when her husband was accepted into a fellowship in pediatric surgery (he is not cutting any eye muscles!).

Dr. Jensen had always hoped to teach but because she never completed a residency, she thought an academic career was beyond her reach.  When she was offered (and accepted) a faculty position at Western University, she realized that she could DREAM BIGGER!

Dreaming bigger is exactly what she has done when she became Chair of the International Examination and Certification Board (IECB).  The best part of living her dream is being part of the process that is building a network of providers for vision therapy and rehabilitation.  The more doctors and vision therapists that become certified as Fellows and COVTs (Certified Optometric Vision Therapist), the more patients we can reach.

Dr. Jensen loves spending time exploring child development with her beautiful  1 year old daughter.
