Wondering why our members call it the COVD Family? We asked some them why they come to the Annual Meeting and their answers below speak for themselves!
1. “Going to COVD is like the biggest and best family reunion in the world.”
I owe it to my patients who trust me with their care to be as knowledgeable about the newest research, technology, and procedures to help with their care. I always come back from the meeting with tons of new ideas to try. When I am a better therapist, I give better care.
I am blessed to work for doctors who value the need for continuing education. They pour so much into me, attending COVD meeting is my chance to honor their dedication to my learning and growth.
The people I have met at COVD have become my second family. Going to COVD is like the biggest and best family reunion in the world.
For one week a year, I get to just be me…I get to take off all my other hats…mom, wife, manager, etc… and just focus on being a therapist, which is the career I have devoted my life to. By taking that week to myself, I end up being a better person in all the other areas of my life because my cup is full to the point of overflowing.
— Jessi Stevenson, COVT
2. Something for everybody.
I always look forward to the COVD Annual Meeting to get inspired by the people I interact with, all the new VT equipment and books in the exhibit hall, and the lectures.
The COVD Annual Meeting brings together like-minded professionals from all over the world. You learn a lot and it is always fun.
COVD hosts a truly great meeting for students, new practitioners, and those that have been coming for a long, long time.
— Kristy Remick-Waltman, OD, FCOVD, FAAO
3. Sunglasses emoji!
To see my vision therapy family! 😎
— Esther Han, OD, FCOVD
4. Inspiration from the next generation.
I’ll be in Bellevue to be inspired by my students and residents (past present and future)!
5. “Bright, passionate people”
I am going to be around bright, passionate people who want to make a positive impact on their patients and their communities. I am excited to go with our SUNY resident, Tanya.
— Randy Schulman, OD, FCOVD
6. It’s one-of-a-kind
Where else can you go to a meeting where you feel totally at home, learn a ton, and laugh a lot, with many good friends?
There’s nothing like a COVD meeting!
7. Education you can use.
COVD is my absolute favorite meeting. Every year the CE is very relevant to my daily practice, I always learn something valuable. It is also a great opportunity to see my COVD “family”. I love catching up with my former students, co-residents, colleagues and mentors. This year I am especially excited to explore Bellevue on foot with my COVD walking buddies and finding delish local eats with my COVD foodie buddies!!
— Kimberly Walker, OD, FCOVD
8. It’s home away from home.
It’s all about the COVD family. It’s like coming home! The COVD meeting is my optometric inspiration!
— Lynn Hellerstein, OD, FCOVD, FAAO
9. The reason is right in our name!
Some history — when COVD was being founded the original name discussed was “the College of Optometric Vision Development.” A number of ODs spoke up insisting that the new group be about the people in it. The result was that we are all members of the College of OPTOMETRISTS in Vision Development.
So…I go to COVD to see my peeps, get recharged, and be reminded about why I do what I do.
See you all in Bellevue!
— Rob Fox, OD, FCOVD
10. Sharing the sights and special events.
Looking forward to sharing our part of the country with all our friends and colleagues!
Hoping the weather is as fantastic as this morning and everyone gets to see mountains and water in all their splendor.
Looking forward to the first guest speaker on Wednesday night. Go Hawks!
— Nancy Torgerson, OD, FCOVD
11. Location, location, location!
When I first heard they were sending us to Bellevue I got nervous; then I realized it was a town in Washington State! Looking forward to our special guest speaker on the opening night of the Annual Meeting, and hoping to see you all there!
12. Real connection, true support.
I go to COVD every year to not only learn, but to connect with the best doctors in this field. Every person I come into contact with during the meeting is open to talk, share their experience and create something bigger than him or herself. It truly is an infectious place that makes you want to be a better doctor and get back to your patients to try new things. I feel so lucky to be part of the COVD family that truly supports each other.
