This is a great article and video done by CBS Boston.  It beautifully highlights some children similar to the ones I see in my office everyday – children that struggle in school due to undiagnosed treatable vision problems.  Dr. John Abondanzza, a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), does a great job of describing the types of vision problems with which these children are struggling.  The story highlights a child named Jacob, whose mother is a school teacher, and who has struggled in school and with reading.  I especially love the part at the end of the video with little Jacob saying that he now “loves to read.”  Check it out at  If you feel that you or your child may struggle with a learning-related vision problem and would like to find a developmental optometrist near you, please follow this link.
