This is a great article and video done by CBS Boston. It beautifully highlights some children similar to the ones I see in my office everyday – children that struggle in school due to undiagnosed treatable vision problems. Dr. John Abondanzza, a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), does a great job of describing the types of vision problems with which these children are struggling. The story highlights a child named Jacob, whose mother is a school teacher, and who has struggled in school and with reading. I especially love the part at the end of the video with little Jacob saying that he now “loves to read.” Check it out at http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/10/18/unusual-therapy-helps-kids-struggling-in-school/.
